I'm not just a writer-I'm a big reader too! I love reviewing things on Goodreads! There's a link to my profile at the top of the page. You should check it out! Here's an example from a book I 5-starred (which I don't do very often):
Review of My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix.
I loved the idea of this book, and I loved its truths. I loved how it unfolded, chapter by chapter to tell the platonic love story of two friends. Abby and Gretchen become unlikely friends when Gretchen is the only one to attend Abby's roller rink party. They quickly become inseparable. But when a summer getaway goes awry, Gretchen begins to change. Is she possessed or simply something their small town can't accept? Is she a home for the devil or just the latest scapegoat?
My Best Friend's Exorcism is nostalgia at its finest. It asks deep, probing questions about our assumptions, politics, and identities. It brings tears of loss and ones of laughter on the next page. There is horror and hope and everything in between. There's even a weightlifter/exorcist-in-training.
This was my first foray into the work of Grady Hendrix and I will be back.
If you liked American Horror Story: Camp Redwood, this book will give you similar vibes. One of the best things I've read this year!
